Summary: Transient stability facing great electromagnetic or electromechanic disturbances is fundamental to safe operating a power system. As it is an isolated power system, the oil rigs, also referred as stationary production units, tend to display higher voltage and frequency oscilations when compared to an interconnected power system. Thus, in order to predictability in system maneuvers, specially when the generator system is not in its full capacity, for instance during a preventive or corrective maintenance of turbines and generators, and avoiding, therefore, generation collapse, it is imperative that the power system be adequately modeled. For this reason, the main components of stationary production units power systems, as for generators, gas turbines, excitation system, speed regulator and induction motors, are carefully modeled in order to obtain a simulation plataform that represents this system accurately. The simulation was developed in PTW software (Power*Tools for Windows) by using the stability model, ISIM®.
Model validation is obtained by comparing its results to oscilographies in real casesof great engines starters, partial generation and performance loss in charge disposal. The results by means of simulation were greatly adherent to those obtained in the field.
